Whatever happened to: Tudor Rose, Quest for the Holy Grail? -- posted by JohnPaul on Friday, January 26, 2007 1:17AM
Does anyone know what happeend to the Tudor Rose Renaissance Faire in Arkansas? It was supposed to be held in September 2007 of this year, but now their website is gone: http://www.tudorroserenfaire.com Second, the "Quest for the Holy Grail" event in Des Moines that was announced for last year, then cancelled. They also had several other events announced in various states. Their site, too, seems to be gone: http://www.newworldfestivals.com/ Does anyone know if they have new sites? Google only showed me the old ones, still fresh enough to be in the Google Cache. Thanks, much! [FestivalNews]

Greetings! On behalf of the Des Moines Renaissance Faire, I am assembling members of our acting, vending and volunteer community to join in the spirit of community service this Spring. We would like to provide enthusiastic renaissance costumed volunteers for both of these Iowa institutions. At least two dozen people are needed, with room for more! For Iowa Pulblic Television, the date and time is Saturday, March 17 (St. Patrick's Day) from 6pm-11pm. 22 volunteers are needed, age 16 or older. Interested individuals should contact me, Lynne Melssen - Community Relations Director by emailing: http://www.dmrenfaire.com/contact_lynne.shtml May life treat you Royally! [PerformerNews]
Musical group Merry Measure -- posted by JohnPaul on Thursday, January 4, 2007 6:41PM
Greetings! You are receiving this message because you once elected to receive messages about Minstrosity. (Or you are reading it on AtTheFaire after JP received it and posted it there... -JP) You also probably have heard through this list that Minstrosity will no longer be performing together. We did our last set together amidst many tears at the Stronghold Olde English Faire in October. But from endings can come new beginnings, so with the new year we would like to introduce Merry Measure ...Let me set my mournful ditty To a merry measure;-- Thou wilt never come for pity, Thou wilt come for pleasure;. Percy Bysshe Shelley - "Rarely Comest Thou" John Wiseman (guitar, vocals, mandolin) and Wendy Zdrodowski (vocals, pennywhistle, bodhran) have joined forces with Andrea Pakiesen (fiddle, vocals) and Fred Lauritzen(whistle/recorders). We may be new to each other but we all bring years of diverse experience to the table and are excited to be working together. We are currently in rehearsals and looking forward to making our debut in the upcoming season. Demo recording will take place in early January and our website at www.merrymeasure.com should be up by the middle of the month. Until then you can always see what we are up to at our LiveJournal community http://community.livejournal.com/merrymeasure/ We will make the first few updates through this mailing list, and will give you the opportunity to join the Merry Measure e-list directly very soon. As always, you can reply to this message with “remove” as the subject line and we will trouble you no further. We hope you will be interested in our new venture, and promise that it will be something well worth waiting for. Yours etc… Wendy, John, Fred & Andrea [AtTheFaire]

Four Kingdoms (Rock Island, IL) Ren Fest update -- posted by JohnPaul on Monday, January 1, 2007 6:27PM
(This was sent in on 12/18/06.) Greetings! Here is an update as to what is going on with FKRF if you are interested... Like many events in the Quad Cities in 2006 we too took a financial hit this year. While our numbers were up slightly from last year we did not achieve what we had hoped to or needed to. After our loss we spent time evaluating if we should continue this venue or not. However we have stated time and time again that any venture is a long term investment. That said we will be moving ahead for 2007 with many changes including a date change. Ideas are wonderful but they are simply smoke if you can not enact them. While it was our hope to attract a school crowd on Monday of the Columbus day weekend we can not in good conscious continue this as we simply do not have the volunteers/Crafts people/merchants to pull it off to our satisfaction. That being said for two years we have been in competition with the Spoon river festival and Autumn Drive that goes on in Galesburg Illinois for Artisan/Crafters/demonstrators. Also the availability of merchants and entertainers on Columbus day weekend is less because of larger Venues in the Midwest moving to this weekend in 2007 or already existing such as Spoon river. The thought was which weekend do we move to? Two were suggested one being the second weekend in October the other the last weekend in September. The Second weekend still puts us in competition with the Spoon River event so we have decided to move our event to the last weekend in September. This was not an idle thing as one comment we have heard for two years is that the Patrons want to see more demonstrations/ skill activities. The coverage we received from the media was incredible which we feel is bringing more attention to our event. So FKRF is now being scheduled for September 29th and 30th in 2007. Our website will be updated shortly to show this. Other changes will be announced shortly one being that our Vendor Fee will be raised by 25.00. However if vendors get their applications to us before March 31st they will receive a 25 dollar discount. We will also in all likelihood be dropping a stage for 2007 going to 3 or four rather than the 5+ we have been running for the past two years. This is a cost issue. While we think as many have commented to FKRF entertainment value as a success we may not continue after 2007 if we are not a financial success. It is difficult to cut entertainment especially when people have expectations based on the first two years. While we will once again be looking for sponsors this is the reality as of this point in time. Sponsorship will change this as will more merchants but at this point this is where we stand. It has always been the goal of FKRF to be an Educational as well as an entertaining event and we will not be jeopardizing this. We will still be looking for Good quality entertainers just not as many. If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to contact us via e-mail or by phone. Sincerely J.L. Kettering |
